Overview

You will report to & work closely with the Senior Network Engineer supporting the development, implementation & continuous improvement of the IT Services across the College. You will be assisting with the management of the College Networking Infrastructure providing technical knowledge & skills to assist in delivering improvements across all areas.

The Information Technology team is responsible for the provision of an effective and responsive technical support service to IT users across the College, and for the development of a reliable, resilient IT infrastructure to support the business needs of the organisation.  The team is split into a number of groups, each of which has responsibility for delivering specific parts of the IT support required.

You will report to and work closely with the Senior Network Engineer supporting the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the IT Services across the College.

You will be assisting with the management of the College Networking Infrastructure providing technical knowledge and skills to assist in delivering improvements across all areas. 

Based at the Sutton Coldfield Campus but will be responsible for the service across all sites and therefore will be required to work across all sites.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist Senior Network Engineer in the design and implement network solutions as required
  • Provide technical assistance at first and second line support for users.
  • Remote and on-site troubleshooting, fault finding investigation and analysis
  • Provide technical assistance at second and third line support for users.
  • Installation, management and configuration of Network Devices and Cabling.
  • Management and administration of office 365 including email
  • Assist in the running, support and  administer backup routines, applications and hardware
  • Remote and on-site troubleshooting, fault-finding investigation and analysis
  • Responding to and resolving incidents according to agreed SLAs
  • Maintain ownership and provide detailed update of incident progress in Service Desk system
  • Document new solutions and procedures as necessary.
  • Proactively maintain and develop knowledge of any specialist area
  • Attend training sessions
  • To communicate effectively and apply customer care principles at all levels
  • To contribute to the effective provision of IT Services for all staff and student users in line with service standards.
  • Work closely with all members of the IT Directorate.

It may be necessary from  time to time to work outside of standard office hours, which may also include occasional evening and weekend work


Entry requirements

A minimum of GCSE grade 4/C or above in both Maths and English. (Evidencable).

Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

Understanding of Cisco technologies is desired but not essential.

Things to consider

Generous allowance of 30 days annual leave per year. Flexibility within department if necessary. It may be necessary from time to time to work outside of standard office hours, which may also include occasional evening and weekend work

Future Prospects

Possibility of a full-time role upon successful completion of the Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship.
