Frequently asked questions

Starting an apprenticeship or already on your journey? Find clear answers to the most common questions learners ask, including how apprenticeships work, what to expect, and how Apprentify supports you along the way.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job that combines practical work experience with structured learning. You’ll develop valuable skills in the workplace while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprenticeships are suitable for people at all stages of their careers. You may be starting a brand-new role as an apprentice, or you may already be employed and using an apprenticeship to develop new skills, gain a qualification or progress within your current organisation.

As an apprentice, you’ll receive a salary, employment contract, holiday entitlement and the same workplace rights and benefits as other employees. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll receive support from both your employer and Apprentify to help you succeed.

What are the benefits of completing an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships offer a practical way to develop valuable skills, gain recognised qualifications and progress your career, all while earning a salary.

If you’re starting a new role, an apprenticeship allows you to gain hands-on experience, learn from industry professionals and build the skills employers are looking for. You’ll develop real-world knowledge while working towards a recognised qualification.

If you’re already employed, an apprenticeship provides an opportunity to develop new skills, deepen your expertise and support your career progression without the financial burden often associated with further education. Training takes place during your working hours, allowing you to learn while continuing to contribute to your role.

Benefits of an apprenticeship include:

  • Earning a salary while you learn
  • Gaining a nationally recognised qualification
  • Developing industry-relevant skills and knowledge
  • Learning from experienced professionals and occupational experts
  • Improving future career and progression opportunities
  • Applying your learning directly in the workplace

Do I pay for my apprenticeship?

No. You do not pay to complete an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are funded by the government and employers, meaning you can gain new skills, valuable work experience and a nationally recognised qualification without paying tuition fees. You’ll also earn a salary throughout your apprenticeship.

What is the duration of an Apprentify apprenticeship?

The length of an apprenticeship depends on the programme and the skills being developed. At Apprentify, our apprenticeship programmes have a minimum duration of 8 months while completing a minimum amount of off the job hours (dependent on qualification, prior learning experience, with some lasting longer depending on the learning outcomes, allowing learners to build valuable skills, gain workplace experience and achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

For those looking to develop specific skills more quickly, we also offer Apprenticeship Units. These focused programmes are designed to develop expertise in targeted areas and can be completed in a much shorter timeframe. For example, our AI Leadership Unit – Strategy and Opportunity can be completed in as little as 9 weeks.

How old do I have to be enrolled onto an apprenticeship?

To start an apprenticeship, you must be at least 16 years old. There is no upper age limit, making apprenticeships a great option whether you’re starting your career, changing careers or developing new skills in your current role.

At Apprentify, our learners range from 16-year-olds entering the workplace for the first time to experienced professionals looking to upskill later in their careers. In fact, our oldest apprentice is 69 years old.

Whether you’re joining a new employer as an apprentice or developing your skills within your existing role, apprenticeships are designed to support learners at every stage of their career.

Where is the apprenticeship training completed?

Apprentify delivers apprenticeship training online through a blend of live and self-paced learning. You’ll attend interactive sessions via Microsoft Teams, supported by on-demand learning materials and activities available through our learner management system.

This flexible approach allows you to learn from industry experts while applying your new skills in the workplace.

How much will I get paid?

As an apprentice, you’ll earn a salary while gaining valuable workplace experience and working towards a recognised qualification. The amount you earn will depend on the employer and role, but Apprentify is committed to connecting learners with quality opportunities.

What hours will I work?

An apprentice usually can work between 30  40 hours per week, although this can differ depending on the employer.
