Why take on a Data Technician Apprentice

Data Technicians are responsible for collecting and processing data under the guidance of a senior colleague or multiple colleagues across the business

All our programmes are virtually delivered nationwide and our coaching sessions can be done online. So if you are looking for a flexible solution with little or no face to face then our programme is the one for you. Why not watch our latest employer video by clicking on the image below.

Why invest in a Data Technician Apprentice

Investing in a Data Technician apprentice will benefit your business immediately, but more importantly, it will prepare you for the future. Apprentify sources remarkable Data Technician talent for your organisation. Every one of our candidates is assessed on their cultural fit as well as essential skills set and none are put forward to you without first passing our digital, behavioural and technical tests.

%

of an apprentice’s hours are all dedicated to the business, with only 20% minimum being set aside for apprenticeship related learning and tasks.

%

of employers were aware of the Apprenticeship Levy, which leaves 63% unaware that any business (that earns less than £3m) can have most apprenticeship costs offset.

%

of your apprenticeship cost could be covered through the apprenticeship levy.

Technical Skills Learnt

Throughout the Data Technician apprenticeship, your apprentice will learn a variety of technical skills and abilities which will greatly benefit them and the business they work for. We teach these mostly through online sessions, where the fresh recruit will find themselves amongst similar apprentices who are learning at the same time.

General skills Learnt

Not only are the technical abilities that are learnt an important aspect of any apprenticeship, but also the general skill development of an employee’s recruit. The apprentice’s very own Development Coach is a helpful aspect of our apprenticeship offering. They are available to track progress and provide support, including Maths and English skills or punctuality.

A Data Technician Apprentice Learner Journey

A Data Technician apprentice has quite the journey from when they first start with (possibly) very little skill, all the way to passing their endpoint assessment and having an index of knowledge.

Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 1)
Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 1)

During Unit 1, using Excel, learners will begin their journey from collecting to getting the data ready for the analysis. They will:
- identify different types of data
sets and their formats,
- locate and collect the data
securely from trusted sources and
- blend and extract data from
various sources and formats to
explore its relevance for the
business needs.

Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 2)
Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 2)

During part 2 of Unit 1, using Power BI, learners will be able to:
- store, manage, migrate and share data securely, from already identified sources, in line with organisation requirements.
- blend and extract data from various sources and formats to explore its relevance for the business needs
- collate, clean and format data to facilitate processing and presentation for review and further advanced analysis by others.

Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 3)
Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 3)

In the third part of Unit 1, using SQL, the learners will continue to:
- locate and collect the data securely from trusted sources
- collate, clean and format data to facilitate processing and presentation for review and further advanced analysis by others
- communicate results verbally, through reports and technical documentation and tailoring the message for the audience.

Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 4)
Unit 1 - Preparing the data (Part 4)

In the last part of Unit 1, using R programming, learners will:
- collate, clean and format data to facilitate processing and presentation for review and further advanced analysis by others
- communicate results verbally, through reports and technical documentation and tailoring the message for the audience
- collaborate with people both internally and externally at all levels with a view to creating value from data.

Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 1)
Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 1)

This unit is spread over 4 months. In the first part of Unit 2, the learners will be introduced to basic statistical analysis & simple data modelling, using Excel. The learners will learn to:
- visualise and present data in a format appropriate to the task
- summarise the data and explain the results
- analyse simple and complex structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes using basic statistical methods to analyse the data

Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 2)
Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 2)

In part 2 of Unit 2, the learners will apply basic statistical analysis & simple data modelling, using Power BI.
The learners will learn to:
- visualise and present data in a format appropriate to the task
- summarise the data and explain the results
- create clear reports and results from data in line with audience requirements

Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 3)
Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 3)

In part 3 of Unit 2, the learners will apply basic statistical analysis & simple data modelling, using SQL.
The learners will learn to:
- summarise the data and explain the results
- create clear reports and results from data in line with audience requirements
- communicate results verbally, through reports and technical documentation and tailoring the message for the audience.

Unit 2 - Analysing & Visualising data (Part 4)

Unit 3 - Sharing the results (Part 1)
Unit 3 - Sharing the results (Part 1)

This unit is spread over 2 months.

In the first month of the Unit 6, learners will continue with Machine Learning algorithms - Time series analysis and Forecasting. The goal of these methods is to understand the past trends and to make a forecast for the future. They will learn about other aspects necessary when dealing with time series: stationary data, seasonality, autocorrelation.

Unit 3 - Sharing the results (Part 2)
Unit 3 - Sharing the results (Part 2)

In this final part, the learners will learn to:
- present the measures taken to store, manage and distribute the data in line with organisation, legal and regulatory requirements
- create clear reports and results from data in line with audience requirements
- collaborate with people at all levels with a view to creating value from data
- communicate results verbally, through reports and technical documentation and tailoring the message for the audience.

Learners will have approximately 3months to prepare for Gateway. They will consolidate the portfolio that they have built throughout the course.

It took us a few attempts to find an apprenticeship provider who was able to fit our specific requirements. We love Apprentify's process and their customer service. As a result of that, we hired six apprentices! We will definitely be using Apprentify again. If you are looking to hire apprentices to join your company, we couldn't recommend Apprentify enough!

“‘The great resignation’ means there is a huge demand for digitally equipped talent. This is pushing up salaries and means SMEs are being ‘squeezed’ as they struggle to compete with the corporates. If we’re going to meet 2030 digital demands, we need to start to think creatively now.”
