Overview

Apprentify are hiring on behalf of our client; a software and services company on an exciting growth trajectory with 25+ years’ experience in delivering world-class geospatial software and data science expertise to customers in the public sector. They are looking for two Data Engineer Apprentices to join their growing team and contribute towards the success of the company whilst being enrolled on our Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship.

 

The company solves complex data problems to help their customers make better and faster decisions where location is a large part of their operations. They do this through their expert team of data engineers and their software products or solutions. Their data engineers work with customers to solve business needs, where focus is on business outcomes and are technology agnostic to the solutions that solve those problems.

They are looking for Data Engineer Apprentices who are excited to solve complex customer problems and learn all about data modelling, analysis and programming as part of their team of experts. 

Once trained and your experiene and skill level grows, your eventual main duties will be:

  • Set up, maintain and improve automated data processes where required
  • Identify, evaluate and implement external services and tools to support data processing, manipulation, validation and cleansing
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide data business solutions, including publishing data and sharing data through file processes and APIs
  • Design plans for data/geo data gathering and analysis, in line with customer requirements and guidance from Technical Lead
  • Examine data/geo data, processes and technologies to evaluate current state and business critical problems for both internal functions and client projects and consult with relevant stakeholders
  • Analyse Data models and physical databases for discrepancies and variances
  • Design and manage databases and data/geo data flows to ensure smooth business operations
  • Senior Stakeholder management – working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent & effective communications and throughout project lifecycle. Confidently present quantitative and qualitative data and other information in a manner structured towards providing useful insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Research into Data trends & geo data trends where needed, to ensure we are keeping up to date with changes in technology and the data market & geo data market

Entry requirements

  • Adaptable and enthusiastic learner who can demonstrate an ability to become proficient with new tools, technologies and systems quickly
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Grade C/level 4 in Maths and English GCSEs
  • Good A levels (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Sciences or Economics preferably 
  • Highly organised with the ability to work independently at a fast pace whilst demonstrating excellent attitude and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business.
  • Experience and confidence using Microsoft packages such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Theoretical knowledge of a programming language would be a plus.
  • Be able to commute to Horsham office 2 days a week.

Training to be provided

You will undertake the ground breaking Apprentify Data Technician Level 3 apprenticeship.

We have designed our programme to offer you a distinct route into your career path and specialise in sourcing, formatting, and presenting data securely in a relevant way for analysis using a variety of methods.  

During the 13 months of training, you will learn cutting edge theory and industry practice across 10 carefully structured Modules covering the duties that are required as a Data Analyst:

  • Source data from a collection of already identified trusted sources in a secure manner
  • Collate and format data to facilitate processing and presentation for review and further advanced analysis by others
  • Present data for review and analysis by others, using required medium for example tables, charts and graphs
  • Blend data by combining data from various sources and formats to explore its relevance for the business needs
  • Analyse simple and complex structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes using basic statistical methods to analyse the data.
  • Validate results of analysis using various techniques, e.g cross checking, to identify faults in data results and to ensure data quality
  • Communicate results verbally, through reports and technical documentation and tailoring the message for the audience
  • Store, manage and share data securely in a compliant manner
  • Collaborate with people both internally and externally at all levels with a view to creating value from data
  • Practise continuous self learning to keep up to date with technological developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for own professional development
